Supporting Cody through Cancer and Divorce

Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart we are creating this page for Cody Nichols as he begins his fight with cancer for a third time. A 26 year old, father of two young children, Cody has been battling cancer for 2 1/2 years. The beast he is fighting is Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare childhood bone cancer. To add to the devastation, Cody is also currently going through a divorce.

When Cody was first diagnosed in May of 2019, the cancer encompassed the vast majority of his right pelvis. His treatment at University of Michigan included 15 cycles of the harshest chemotherapy available, 1 cycle equaling 5 days straight of 10 hours of infusion. Along with chemotherapy, he received the maximum amount of radiation treatments you can receive in a lifetime. This intense regimen put Cody’s cancer into remission for nearly 6 months. However, it did return. A new large tumor was found on Cody’s hip adductor, the muscle next to the old tumor. Due to already receiving the lifetime amount of radiation and the toughest chemotherapy, the doctors had to treat this new tumor differently. Cody ended up going through 8 more cycles of a less harsh chemotherapy. It was during this time that Cody’s wife filed for divorce. Following the 8 cycles of chemotherapy, Cody underwent an extensive surgery to remove the muscle and tumor. The surgery went well and the doctors thought they got it all. After recovering from surgery, Cody returned to work after being unable to work for 2 1/2 years. Just this past August, Cody had his scheduled rescans. The MRI’s and CT scans showed two new large tumors in his pelvis, along with a possible third in the muscle. These tumors have very quickly become debilitating, causing Cody severe pain and exhaustion. Since meeting with his oncologist, Cody will resume a chemotherapy regimen to prolong his life as long as possible. If the chemotherapy works in stabilizing the cancer, Cody may have the option to amputate his leg and right side of his pelvis.

Cody faces a long, difficult road ahead of him. We want to help lessen the burden, so Cody and his family can focus solely on his care and his health. The financial challenges they may face could be insurmountable- travel expenses, medications, medical equipment, and insurance deductibles. There are also additional challenges due to Cody’s pending divorce. Cody will need to obtain a home in order to get joint custody of his children, aged 2 and 3. He will also need insurance since he is currently covered by his wife’s insurance and since the cancer is becoming debilitating, Cody may be unable to work in the near future.

We appreciate your contributions however big or small. We also know not everyone can offer a monetary donation- we ask for your thoughts and prayers as Cody fights this cancer. Thank you for your support!
