Supporting Chris's Cancer Fight

I am holding out hope that when this is all over, the latest round of "Glow in the Dark" chemotherapy will awaken a latent gene in Chris and unlock his superpowers. If I am honest, it is really the faint hope that he will turn into Green Lantern and have to live with the stigma of Ryan Reynolds version for the rest of his life.

On the serious side, Chris's fight with Cancer has taken an unexpected path and the cancer has decided that it wants to keep hanging around, and, as if that is not enough, it turns out it is a chemo resistant strain. His initial treatments and surgery were only partially successful and he is in the process of his second, more aggressive, treatment plan with a third even more aggressive lined up shortly after. On this new leg of the journey, Chris will receive two new chemo treatments over the course of the spring, some of which he will be admitted into hospital for as he will be immunocompromised.

We all know that Theatre is a career path of passion, and Chris and Theresia have pursued it for more than two decades with great commitment and burning passion. In a just world this would have lead to fame, fortune and a life of leisure with boat drinks in the sun, but that is not the reality of a lifetime in the arts. I tried writing a joke here about being albino moles, broke, dressed in all black, blinking in the blinding sunshine, but then I remembered that they live in Chilliwack and haven't seen the sun since they arrived and I couldn't reconcile the punchline, but I digress....
Their passionate approach to life has rewarded them with fulfilling careers, loving family and lifelong friends and colleagues, but it has not translated into a savings account that can sustain a long-term illness such as the one they are facing. Chris does not have a 'return to work' date or plan, and his medical EI benefits are ending this week. Chris and T are proud people and asking for help is hard, so I am doing it for them.

Quite simply, Chris and Theresia are out of money to sustain themselves and they need help. With the day-to-day expenses of three children, two of whom are special needs, it is not possible for Theresia, as the sole financial contributor, to keep their heads above water during these most difficult times.

I know they are so grateful for any help and support you have all already given and offered. (I now because I stole these words from Theresia's Facebook) This next part of the journey promises to be hard and long, and we need to redouble our help, support and love for Chris, Theresia, Danica, Aiden and Sydney in these hardest of times.
For those of us who are fortunate enough to also be in a position to assist financially, I ask you to join Renee and I and give what you can.
This is the long way round on this journey for Chris and he needs to focus on beating cancer. Financial stress is not a positive contributor to his healing process and if we can do some small part of making this less his concern, I for one want to help.
