Supporting children by biking from Belgium to South Africa

Hello there,

We are Camille (27) and Jolan (28) from Hasselt, Limburg, currently living in Brussels. We share a deep love for nature, adventure, and authentic cultural experiences that take us far from the usual tourist paths. That’s why we’ve decided to embark on the adventure of a lifetime—a bike ride from Brussels to Cape Town!

Over the next 1.5 years, we’ll be cycling through 24 countries, starting with France, Spain, and Portugal, then following the west coast of Africa all the way to Kleinmond.

But this journey isn’t just about us. We want to make a difference along the way, which is why we’re calling our adventure Bike4Local. We hope you’ll join us in supporting a fantastic local initiative in Kleinmond, where our journey will end.

The initiative we’re riding for was started in 2023 by Theo and Augusta under the umbrella of the Kleinmond Cycling Club (KCC). With the help of local volunteers and material support from Belgium, the project has gained significant momentum in just one year. The goal? To give underprivileged youth a chance to climb the social ladder, using cycling as a tool for empowerment.

The project has already delivered impressive results. Together with a team of volunteers, they’ve created a cycling course where children not only learn to ride bikes but also build confidence, resilience, and joy outside the streets. One student has even been selected to participate in a scholarship program. If he succeeds, he’ll be offered a free secondary education program, serving as an inspiring role model for other schoolchildren in Kleinmond.

Though the organization is small, it makes a big impact—but there’s still so much more to be done. The founders have noticed that many of the children come to lessons without having eaten enough, leaving them too weak to fully enjoy the cycling sessions. That’s why they want to provide nutritious, protein-rich meals before each class so the kids are well-fed and ready to ride.
