Supporting Charities with Dr Brian Reynolds

Donation protected
Late last year one of our fantastic colleagues at Epworth Geelong ICU was diagnosed with leukaemia. Dr Brian Reynolds has been a wonderful member of our ICU family for a number of years always providing excellent care to our patients and an ongoing pillar of support for staff. When we found out about Brian's diagnosis we were shocked! Now on the other side of the stethoscope, Brian is currently undergoing his treatment and while we miss having him around in the unit we are sure that his resilience, positive attitude and steely resolve will all aid in his speedy recovery.

Epworth Geelong ICU staff have been keen to support Brian, and his wife Amanda in any way that we can. After some discussion, Brian indicated that two charities in particular have been especially helpful to their family in recent months and that he would support us in raising funds for them. Those two charities are:

The Leukaemia Foundation - Building of Hope Accommodation Centre

Completed in 2016 the 15 apartments located across the road from the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre provide a 'home away from home' for patients, their carers and their families who have to temporarily relocate from regional and rural areas for specialist treatments.
More on the Building of Hope can be found here https://www.leukaemia.org.au/how-we-can-help/accommodation-services/melbourne-building-of-hope/

and

Epworth Medical Foundation - The Ethel Gray Benevolent Fund.

EMF via The Ethel Gray Benevolent Fund directly supports patients, their families or our colleagues in need. It funds items such as transport or accommodation for patients and their family, provision of meals or personal needs on discharge, cost of outpatient programs or support of a colleague facing significant personal challenges.

Over the next 5 weeks Epworth ICU staff are asking for your support to raise $5000 for the Building of Hope Accommodation Centre and a further $5000 for the Ethel Gray Benevolent fund!!

At the culmination of this fundraising drive, on the 18th March 2021, ICU Consultant, Dr Haran Sathianathan and ICU ANUM, Luke McMartin will be completing the worlds greatest shave with their follicular donations going to Sustainable Salons.

Sustainable Salons are a charity organisation that turn ponytails into wigs for those with cancer and shorter hair clippings into compost and even floating beams to absorb oil spills at sea.

On behalf of Epworth Geelong ICU and Dr Brain Reynolds thank you so much for your support as we aim to give back to these brilliant charities that do so much for our community!
