Supporting Cathy, Carlos and their Children Through Their Kidney Transplant Journey

Many of you know and love Cathy Wojcik, a dedicated Saint Andrew’s School first grade teacher, devoted mother, and beloved member of the community. Today, Cathy and her longtime partner, Carlos, are preparing for a life-changing journey that will impact their entire family.

Carlos is living with advanced kidney disease and is in need of a kidney transplant. In an extraordinary act of love and selflessness, Cathy has been approved as his living kidney donor. As a healthy donor, Cathy will undergo major surgery so Carlos can receive the transplant he needs, offering hope for his health and future while requiring both Cathy and Carlos to face significant surgeries and lengthy recoveries.

Middle school sweethearts, Cathy and Carlos have spent more than 25 years building a life together as friends, partners, and devoted parents. Their journey has been marked by love, commitment, and resilience—qualities that are especially evident as they face this challenge together.

For Cathy and Carlos, this transplant represents far more than a medical procedure. It is an opportunity for Carlos to regain his health and for Abby(9) and Chase (7) to have their father present, healthy, and actively involved in their daily lives for years to come.

The transplant will take place through Carlos’s transplant team in New York, requiring the family to travel and temporarily relocate during the procedure and recovery process. During this time, they will face significant expenses related to travel, temporary lodging, childcare, medical-related costs, lost wages, and the many practical needs that arise throughout a transplant journey. These expenses include extended stays near the transplant center, transportation between appointments, recovery-related costs, and time away from work while healing.

Because Carlos is expected to be unable to work for several months following the transplant, the family will also experience a significant loss of income during his recovery.

Following the transplant, Cathy and Carlos will remain in New York with Abby and Chase while they recover from their surgeries. Once Cathy is medically cleared to travel, she and the children will return to Florida, where Cathy will continue her recovery while caring for her family and returning to work. Carlos, however, will need to remain in New York for an extended recovery period before he is able to return home and resume work.

As Cathy and Carlos focus on healing and recovery, we hope to help ease the financial and logistical burdens they will face in the months ahead. Our goal is to allow them to spend less time worrying about expenses and more time focusing on their health, their family, and the road ahead.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. We would be deeply grateful if you would also share this page with your family, friends, and social media networks. Every share helps expand our reach and gives others the opportunity to support Cathy and Carlos.

Please keep Cathy, Carlos, Abby, and Chase in your thoughts and prayers during this journey.
