Thanks to all of you for your support of Carrie! The fundraiser at the South Shore Brewery Taphouse in Washburn was an amazing success and a great time! So fabulous to see our community rally around Carrie, Sam and her mom Mary. The place was packed, the music was rocking, the food was tasty and the beverages cold and satisfying. We appreciate everyone who helped make this a success!
Many of you know Carrie Linder through the countless ways she shows up for her community. Over the years, she has worn many hats—Bad River Elder Program Coordinator, partner in Pasture Perfect Poultry, the “Lettuce Lady,” Mason EMT, Ashland County Aging Unit Director, and Bayfield County Aging and Disability Services Manager. Others know her as a Women on Water (WOW) kayaker, Northland alum, adventure traveler, soccer mom, daughter to Mary Linder, and loving mom to Sam. She was also a devoted wife to her late husband, Jay of Jay’s Tree Care.
No matter how you know Carrie, one thing is certain—she gives deeply, lives fully, and brings kindness and energy into every space she enters.
In June 2024, Carrie received the difficult diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. While her cancer appears to be slow-growing, the journey has required weekly chemotherapy and tremendous strength. Recently, her oncologist recommended a targeted therapy involving KRAS inhibitors, offering new hope when chemotherapy is no longer effective. She has been accepted into a trial through the START Clinic in Grand Rapids, MI and placed on a waiting list.
The financial burden of her ongoing healthcare costs, including periodic trips to Mayo Clinic, etc. is significant. When she enters into the trial these costs will become even more significant. It is a heavy burden—but one that carries the possibility of more time and hope. Carrie has spent her life caring for others. Now it’s our turn to care for her.
