Supporting Carmine Lazzara

This go fund me is for Carmine Lazzara. His mother is Kristi McConnell, step-father is Kris McConnell, and father is Jerimiah Lazzara with girlfriend Julie Scott. Carmine is 16 years old and on October 5th, he and his girlfriend were involved in a serious car accident. Carmine's girlfriend's injuries were not life threatening and she was able to be treated and released. Carmine's injuries were more traumatic, as his car crashed into a pole on his side of the car. The car was a total loss. Carmine is currently in the hospital, has had multiple major surgeries, and is on life support where his devoted family remains by his side throughout what will undoubtedly be an intense and lengthy recovery. All of Carmine's family has long distances to travel back and forth and are ultimately going to be without work so they can be by his side during his hospital stay, so we are asking for help for them to be able to do so without having to worry about how to pay for certain things while focusing on their boy and his recovery. ***UPDATE*** Yesterday Morning around 630am University hospital’s ECMO team came to Metro to do a procedure (equivalent to a heart bypass) to get Carmes put on an ECMO machine that 100% supports his heart and lungs. For someone so Sick it was very dangerous- they warned us that he may not make it through the procedure, again my baby beat the odds that were against him. He was stabilized and transferred to University’s cardio thoracic intensive care unit. Since being at UH they have kept him sedated and comfortable so he can rest and heal. The ECMO machine is regulating the oxygen in his heart and lungs and his ventilator is keeping his lungs moving. He has to be sedated for a little longer because the pain makes his oxygen drop and heart rate go up. The did a complete body scan also to make sure all of his injuries were caught from the accident. UH is very thorough and a very different atmosphere- they are very calm and informative. We are blessed to of had him transferred to somewhere that has this specialized unit.
