Supporting Carlo: Still Fighting, Three Years Later
Carlo Soriano has been a Hubstaffian for nearly eight years. He came up through the ranks right way after joining us, starting as a Tier 1 Support Agent, moving to Tier 2, and growing into the Team Lead of our APAC Support group. He is a great leader and a lot of what our support team is today was built on his efforts and his example. He is, simply put, an amazing person and professional.
You may or may not know that Carlo was first diagnosed 3 years ago with Stage 3 esophageal cancer at just 39 years old. What was supposed to be a surgery, some radiation treatment, and then a road to recovery has become something far longer and far harder. For three years, Carlo has endured rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, PET scans, and ongoing treatment. He has not stopped fighting.
On Sunday April 19th, we got word that Carlo was facing a new and serious crisis: malignant pericardial effusion, a dangerous buildup of fluid around his heart caused by the cancer. He underwent emergency heart surgery, during which doctors removed approximately one liter of fluid. He is currently in the ICU recovering. Three years. And he is still here, still fighting.
Throughout this journey, Carlo, his wife Tin, and the rest of the family have carried an enormous weight together. They have faced years of treatment costs, hospital stays, and the relentless financial strain that comes with a battle this long. The emergency surgery and ICU care have added a significant new burden on top of everything they have already endured.
We are his coworkers and we think of him as one of ours. This is the least we can do. Every dollar, no matter the size, goes directly toward his medical expenses and continued care.
How funds will be handled: GoFundMe does not currently support direct withdrawals to the Philippines. Because of this, funds will be withdrawn by Michael Shipley, who is organizing this GoFundMe on Carlo’s behalf, to his own personal US bank account. Michael will then transfer the full amount to Carlo and Tin via international transfer (Wise). No fees or deductions will be taken. Transfer confirmation will be documented and shared with Carlo's family directly. This campaign is a personal effort by Carlo's coworkers and is not a corporate initiative. Any questions about fund handling can be directed to Michael directly through GoFundMe's messaging. We want every donor to have full confidence that what you give reaches Carlo.
If you are unable to give, we completely understand. Please consider donating or sharing this page to help Carlo and his family. Thank you for standing with him.
