Two weeks before the holidays, our family experienced an unimaginable loss. We said goodbye to our beloved Aleyda Quintanilla — a devoted mother, cherished daughter, loving sister and proud aunt. Aleyda had been courageously battling multiple illnesses for several years, facing each challenge with strength and resilience. Despite her fight, her passing came suddenly, leaving our family shocked and heartbroken.

Aleyda was the center of her children’s world. Her greatest joy was being a mom, and everything she did was for her two kids. Now, in the wake of this devastating loss, her children are left not only grieving their mother, but facing a future forever changed.

Her son, Danny, has special needs and requires ongoing care, structure, and support. He is autistic and has Down Syndrome, and his daily life depends on consistency, therapy, and guidance. As Aleyda’s health declined, Danny’s sister, Brittany, stepped into an extraordinary role. While grieving her own mother, Brittany became Danny’s primary caregiver — advocating for him, caring for him, and putting his needs before her own.

Now, Brittany is working toward becoming Danny’s legal guardian so she can continue protecting and providing for him. This responsibility is immense, emotionally and financially. She is navigating medical appointments, specialized therapies, and essential services — all while adjusting to life without her mother and learning how to support her brother long-term.

Raising any child takes a village. Raising a child with complex needs takes even more. Brittany cannot do this alone.
