Supporting Badass Sandra (Sandy) Through Cancer
Donation protected
Sandy is a go-getter! Diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, this Polk County Healthcare HERO still won’t stop working and caring for others.
Sandy has always been passionate about being a nurse and caring for the elderly. When COVID hit, I like to say, all the chicken hearts left the field, but not Sandy. She stepped right up and did everything she was called to do, HERO things. She never wavered in her commitment to provide the best, most loving care for residents, without fear. She held their hands while some passed away. She rejoiced with others as they recovered. Unfortunately, being a HERO does not stop cancer from knocking at the door. Despite her warrior spirit, Sandy’s diagnosis has taken a toll not only on her physically but also financially. Refusing to back down, Sandy has not stopped trying to do God's work. She cares for the residents, stops to lend an ear to a family member that needs to talk, and continues to run circles around younger nurses. Sandy is always giving her absolute best, all while going through treatment for this horrible disease. You’ll never catch her crying or saying this isn’t fair. I don’t believe “why me” is in her vocabulary. Even as others remain in fear of catching COVID while at work, Sandy continues to do her job and lead the way for fellow caregivers. After catching COVID, though she had a compromised immune system, she stood tall and returned to work the first moment she could, with zero fear or hesitation, ready to do the job she loves!
Sandy has been married to the love of her life (Henry) for 30 years, and together they have 3 children, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Man, as I write this, I can’t believe she is a great grandmother!! WHAT A BOSS!!!
The only way this works is by sharing with everyone. If you cannot give, show your support by passing the information along so others can hear Sandy's story of badassery.
God Bless!!
