Alondra's Brave Journey

On September 11, 2023, Rigo and Ruby welcomed their newborn baby girl, Alondra, into this world. She was born with a full head of hair, chubby cherub cheeks, and sweet pouty lips— weighing in at a healthy 9 lbs 11 oz. She immediately brought immense joy to her parents and her big sister, Rose.

However, not long after her arrival, doctors noticed that Alondra was having difficulty regulating her sugar levels. After consultations with specialists and genetic testing, it was determined that she had focal congenital hyperinsulinism.

About Focal Congenital Hyperinsulinism

Focal congenital hyperinsulinism (HI) is an incredibly rare condition, affecting just 1 in 50,000 newborns. This condition occurs when the pancreas produces an excessive amount of insulin, leading to dangerously low blood sugar levels. Thankfully, there's a beacon of hope – this condition is 97% curable. Why We Need Your Help

Rigo and Ruby have embarked on a journey to provide Alondra with the best possible care. The best path forward is for Alondra to undergo surgical intervention. In the coming days, Alondra will be traveling from Southern California to the renowned Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), known for its expertise in treating focal congenital hyperinsulinism, to undergo a partial pancreatectomy.

This unexpected journey is not without its financial and emotional toll. On top of medical bills, the cost of traveling to Philadelphia for surgery is substantial. El 11 de Septiembre de 2023, Rigo y Ruby dieron la bienvenida a su recién nacida, Alondra, al mundo. Ella nació con una cabeza llena de cabello, regordetes cachetes de querubín y dulces labios fruncidos, pesando un saludable 9 libras y 11 onzas. Inmediatamente, llenó de inmensa alegría a sus padres y a su hermana mayor, Rose.
