Supporting Azure, Mike, and Freya
Donation protected
As many of you know, Azure and Mike welcomed Freya Alla into the world on Wednesday night April 11. She is a strong, brave, and beautiful baby. We are thrilled that she is here, but her arrival was not without drama or serious complications. The good news is the both she and Azure on making good progress on their road to recovery. Azure is up and walking and has spent the past 24 hours getting to spend time with her daughter. Mike has been the rock and amazing father we all knew he would be and has been balancing caring for both of his ladies.
The trauma of the birth means the Freya has been in a level 4 nicu since shortly after her birth. She is being treated to ensure there is no additional injury to her brain or organs and there have been many proactive steps taken to try and ensure she has the best possible path forward. While the doctors have been expressing confidence that its very possible that Freya will have the best possible outcome out of all this, she will need to stay in the nicu for a while. We don't yet know just how long. I'm writing now for a few reasons. First, many of you just wanted an update on how the Wheeler-Pereira family is doing, so we wanted to provide that. Others, have been wondering how you might help, and thats where the next part comes in.
Freya has clearly proven herself to be a fighter and she has a lot of strength, not surprising if you know her parents. And while there is a lot to be encouraged about at the moment, we also don't have a lot of answers. Azure will be getting discharged from the hospital in the next few days. We would like to get her and Mike set up in a hotel or small apartment near the hospital so that they can avoid a 50 min commute each day to be with the baby (and so Azure can avoid using the stairs until she is fully healed from the emergency c-section). We don't know exactly how long Freya will be there but we do know it will be at least a week, and could be much longer than that. We also don't know what kind of medical and specialist support will be needed once Freya does come home. To alleviate any of the stress of these financial and administrative details, we thought we'd open an opportunity for donations for anyone who would like to support in this way. Mike and Azure are not asking for this, and they already appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received from everyone's messages, so please rest assured that there is absolutely no obligation.
If any of the support funds end up not being needed, we will plan on either making it part of Freya's education fund or let Mike and Azure select a charity for donation - perhaps March of Dimes.
Please keep messages of support coming, but we ask to not bombard Azure and Mike at this time with phone calls or asks for visitors as they are concentrating on healing Freya, getting Azure back to full health, and resting. I'm sure they will be eager to speak with you when they are ready. We would also like to keep this off social channels, so please share the link via email if I've missed someone who would like to know about this, but we'd rather not have it up on Facebook, so please dont post it.
Thank you again for the tremendous love, support, and generosity that you have all shown. Its so wonderful to know and be comforted by how much this little family is loved.
