Every Student Deserves a Voice, Independence, and a Future
Imagine a classroom where a student can use a communication device to share an idea, a library has books that meet different learning needs, and a sensory space offers support to get ready to learn.
Imagine students practicing the everyday skills that help them participate more fully in their communities.
These are the experiences we want to create at ASCENDA Preparatory Academy.
Through ASCENDA Foundation Inc., we are working to launch ASCENDA Prep in Rockville, Maryland, with a target opening in January 2027, subject to required approvals and operational readiness.
Our vision is an individualized middle- and high-school learning environment for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including students with significant communication and learning support needs.
Why This Matters to Me
As a parent, educator, and behavior analyst, I know that education should prepare students for more than passing a test.
It should help them communicate, make choices, build relationships, navigate everyday experiences, and prepare for meaningful lives beyond school.
At ASCENDA Prep, we want students to practice those skills every day, with the resources and individualized support they need to learn.
Our Goal: $75,000 to Equip Our Founding Classrooms
We are asking our community to help purchase priority materials and equipment that students and educators can use directly.
Your support will help us equip:
1. An Accessible School Library and Curriculum Resources
Age-respectful books, adapted instructional materials, literacy resources, and learning tools that support students with different communication and learning needs.
2. Communication and Assistive Technology
iPads, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, adaptive software, and accessories that help students communicate, participate, and express themselves.
3. Interactive Classroom Technology
Teacher computers, interactive instructional displays, and accessible technology that support individualized and engaging instruction.
4. Functional and Comfortable Classroom Furniture
Classroom tables, desks, chairs, storage, and flexible learning spaces designed to support students with diverse educational and physical needs.
5. A Sensory and Regulation Space
Sensory equipment, comfortable seating, adjustable lighting, and calming resources to provide students with appropriate sensory and regulation supports.
6. Independent Living and Career-Readiness Materials
Hands-on educational resources that help students develop practical life skills, explore career interests, and prepare for increased independence and community participation.
Building More Than Classrooms
This $75,000 campaign focuses on essential educational resources.
It is not the full cost of launching or operating the school.
ASCENDA Foundation Inc. is the beneficiary and will administer the funds for the academy's educational needs.
We will share updates as purchases are confirmed and learning spaces take shape.
Help Us Build the Foundation
Whether you can give $25, $100, $500, or any amount that is meaningful to you, your gift can help put a valuable learning tool in the hands of students and teachers.
Sharing this fundraiser also makes a difference.
Please donate and share. Together, we can help create a school where students are supported in communication, learning, independence, and life beyond the classroom.
