Supporting Art in Ramsgate!

With the sudden loss of our dear Dominic Grant, creator of this incredible sculpture, local charity Thanet Community Development Trust is working with the Royal Harbour 200 Group to fundraise the final £50,000 needed to bronze-cast the statue and install it overlooking our Royal Harbour. So far, we have raised £11,000 in our other fundraising efforts.

This work of art was created for free by Ramsgate based sculptor, Dominic Grant who dedicated what turned out to be the last two years of his life to it. The statue will be bronze-cast and installed on a granite plinth by local company, Spacer, who are also internationally acclaimed in their field.

We think this addition to our Harbour will help tell the story of our unique ‘Royal’ status and will become a conversation piece for residents and visitors alike which we hope will encourage people to learn more about our Maritime and Royal history.

But our main hope is that this masterpiece, which was made in Ramsgate by self-taught sculptor, Dominic Grant, and will be bronze-cast by a company based in Ramsgate, will help inspire future budding artists to pursue their creative dreams!

Before Dominic's sudden and unexpected passing, he described this sculpture as 'His legacy to Ramsgate' and with your help we can make this happen!

You can donate as little as £5 or as much as you like but please do support this truly community project if you can!

Let's get this big boy bronzed!

A message from Dominic’s family:

In 2018, local artist, acclaimed sculptor and musician Dominic Grant began an incredible life-size sculpture of King George IV to celebrate the 200th Royal anniversary of Ramsgate Harbour, the only Royal Harbour in Great Britain.

Dominic donated his time creating this magnificent statue as a labour of love, for the town he grew to love, which will overlook the harbour to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Tragically, Dominic did not live to see his stunning creation finished and installed, though bar a few final touches, the clay was completed ready for moulding.

Dominic passed away suddenly from an aneurysm in November 2020, leaving his family, friends and an army of fans devastated. But knowing his love of his art and his passion for this statue, his family have continued to realise his dream. His wife Julie, children, Luke Sophie and Sophie’s artist boyfriend, Matt Penn, along with Dominic’s new baby Grandson Stanley, lovingly completed the sculpture.

We need your help to raise a further £50,000 which will fund the bronze-casting, granite plinth and installation costs to complete the project so that this incredible piece of artwork can be proudly displayed in its rightful place, overlooking the Royal Harbour.

Actress and resident of Ramsgate, Brenda Blethyn, has pledged a generous donation to ensure her love of Dominic’s work and her home town has the recognition it deserves.

Please take a moment to watch the video of Dominic’s family honouring his dream and preparing the statue to be handed over for completion.

Please donate whatever you possibly can.

Thank you so much.
