My name is Maurissa Haist and I am fundraising for one of my best friends Patrick Chiasson. We have worked together for 10 years and anyone who is lucky enough to know him knows how special he is. He has always been the kind of person who lights up a room—funny, kind, endlessly generous, and deeply devoted to his family. He is an incredible husband and a loving dad to two beautiful young children, one just 2.5 years old and the other only 8 months.

Recently, his life changed in an instant.

While playing hockey, he was involved in a devastating incident that resulted in severe injuries. He has since undergone spinal cord surgery to relieve pressure and is suffering from a serious concussion. Doctors have told him that he will not be able to walk or hold his babies for the next 12 to 18 months, and the road ahead will be long, uncertain, and demanding—physically, emotionally, and financially.

As he focuses on healing, his family is facing an overwhelming amount of stress. Extended time away from work, ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, mobility equipment, and everyday living expenses are adding up quickly—all while caring for two very young children during an incredibly frightening and vulnerable time.

This GoFundMe has been created to help ease that burden so this family can focus on what matters most: recovery, stability, and being together. Funds raised will go towards every day expenses (groceries, gas, bills), supplies for their children (diapers, formula), medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.), physiotherapy expenses and home modifications to make their home wheelchair accessible.

If you know him, you know how much he gives to others—with his humor, his loyalty, and his heart. Now, he and his family need that same love and support returned.
