Hi my name is Sam Hargreaves, I have been racing, track, road, mountain and cyclocross since the age of 9, now I am 20 years old and my goal is to ride on a UCI Road team in Europe. I am hoping to race over in Europe for the entire 2022 road season. I have been very close to reaching some major goals of racing for Canada in the disciplines of Track and Road Cycling. Over the past two years I have been lucky to support myself over in Belgium to compete in Road Cycling to enhance my skills and expand my experiences with the goal of being selected by a professional team in the next 2 years. I had some bad luck this year, as I was coming into form placing top 20 and moving to top 10 in road races, I was in a devastating crash just as I was hoping to represent Canada over in Europe for a couple of stage races. I am more determined than ever to get back to Europe and prove that I belong and am able to compete with the world's best riders. I have been working hard to be self sufficient through work during off season, but the costs to travel to Europe and self fund my dream has become more costly than I had expected with the expenses being: travel, rent, food, coaching costs, transportation to and from the races, equipment expenses and the cost of entering the races has depleted much of my funds. The cost of spending a full season in Europe to train and race will be over $20,000. I am hoping to work to offset some of the costs but I am afraid I will be short and I am asking for some help to be able to achieve my goal this upcoming season. In addition, I am working part-time toward courses to become a dietician which impacts my ability to work full-time in off season.
