Support for Alonso's Leukemia Treatment

Donation protected
On 27th December 2023, the Madrid family was rocked by heart-breaking news, that 8-year-old Alonso had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Alonso had been feeling happy and well, when he suddenly experienced some typical ill-health which quickly escalated, and Alonso was flown to Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick, where they received his shock diagnosis.

Alonso's treatment commenced immediately after his diagnosis, and he continues to show strength, courage and resilience throughout. Alonso has been responding well to treatment but the road to recovery will take place over the next 2 years and to ensure Alonso receives the best care possible, the family will remain in Sydney for the foreseeable future.

Alonso is a fun, happy and active 8-year-old, known for his cheeky character and love for soccer. A talented player, he recently achieved selection for the NPL division 1 under 10s team with Tigers FC, competing in the age group above. A determined and tenacious boy, from the most generous, and kind-hearted families, Alonso is right where he needs to be, surrounded by the love and support of his family and under the very capable care of Dr. Draga Barbaric.

We are launching this Go Fund Me campaign to rally financial support that will ease the burden on the Madrid family during this challenging time. All funds raised will provide financial support for travel, accommodation, medical and living expenses, allowing Iggy and Mae to maintain stability and consistency for Alonso and his sister Baila (14 years old) while juggling their lives between Sydney and Canberra.

Iggy and Mae have received enormous amounts of love, support and encouragement and are truly humbled by the over-whelming response from family, friends and colleagues. Many of you have reached out, eager to help and wanting to know how to donate to their journey; well, here it is.

Any donation, big or small, will contribute to alleviating the financial pressure on the Madrid family, allowing them to focus on Alonso's health and happiness. We would also like to encourage anyone who is eligible, to visit Australian Red Cross Lifeblood and donate blood at your nearest donor centre or mobile centre. One blood donation can save up to 3 lives and takes as little as 10 minutes to collect.

A massive thank you to everyone supporting, donating and getting behind Alonso and his family.
