My son is Alezander Gonzalez and he's 15 years old with MDA (Duchenne).

He was diagnosed at age 5 and by 2019, his condition slowly got worse. He is no longer able to walk and eventually, all his muscles that help him breathe, and the heart muscles, will weaken.

MDA occurs in 1 in 3,500 to 5,000 males.

His scoliosis has reached a surgical magnitude. In April 2025, he will have spine surgery to help prevent any organs from getting damaged by the spine (neuromuscular scoliosis). I take care of Alez as a single parent and his needs are all-encompassing. We spend most of our time going to doctor appointments in Dallas, TX. However, we need a new vehicle that can hold all his specialty equipment, especially since we drive out of town a lot. I currently do not have reliable, safe transportation and have to assist him into and out of the vehicle on my own.

After surgery, I will no longer be able to carry him in and out of a regular vehicle or carry him at all as I do now.

The list of things I need help with financially is extensive and seems to be never-ending. In April, under doctor's orders, I will not be able to work because this surgery involves an estimated 5-7 day stay in the hospital. Post-operatively, Alezander may require an increase in care which includes wound care, transportation to and from clinic visits, and emotional support. He will be given 4-6 weeks of homebound from school for his recovery period after surgery. I will be taking care and helping Alezander recover from his spine surgery.

Alexander does not have a van equipped for him. He has faced many difficulties getting the assistance he needs.

He's a wonderful kid and doesn't ask for much, and now that he is 15 years old, he hates seeing me struggle to take care of him and wishes he could. So I ask for your support so I can give my son my full support in what he needs at home and to be on the road safely to appointments.
