Hello, my name is Emily Jeffers and I am Alex Hopkins-Jeffers’s sister in law and sister to Ervin Jeffers. Thank you for taking the time to read about their story. I hope you will join me in supporting them through this difficult time.
In the summer of 2022, shortly after Alex (37 years old) and Ervin (36 years old) announced their engagement to marry, Alex was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She endured extensive surgeries and multiple rounds of chemotherapy over the next two years all the while maintaining her full time job and planning her wedding. On January 13th, 2024 Alex and Ervin were joined by their closest loved ones in an unforgettable and beautiful wedding reception at the Charleston Aquarium. It was an evening filled with love, laughter and dancing.
Less than a month later, after a two week hospital stay, Alex received the devastating news that her cancer had returned. Alex’s health is fragile as she works to recover from her most recent surgery and towards building her strength to a level that would support continued treatment (ie: additional chemotherapy, immunotherapy, clinical trials).
Alex faces all of these challenges with unwavering strength and positivity. Ervin has been by her side every step of the way. Because of Alex’s illness and Ervin’s current role as her primary caregiver, they are unable to work at this time. Supporting someone through cancer is a full time job, but one without pay or benefits. Hospital bills and medical expenses add up quickly. Not to mention everyday life expenses (mortgage payments, water/electric bills, etc.). Your donation will help ease the burden of accrued life and medical expenses and directly facilitate Alex and Ervin’s ability to focus on what is most important at this time. The hurdles are high, their love is strong.
This should be a fundraiser for a young couple’s honeymoon, one that they haven’t been able to plan yet. Instead it is a fundraiser to ensure Alex’s comfort and ability to focus on her health. Join me in supporting Alex and Ervin as they battle these immense challenges. Any funds donated will go directly to Alex and Ervin. Any amount donated is appreciated, and if you are unable to donate at this time sharing this link with friends and family would mean so much.
“I wonder if we are brave,” said Frog.
Frog and Toad got out their head-shots and looked at them for a long time. “We look brave,” said Frog.
“Yes, but are we?” asked Toad.”
