Hi everyone, I am reaching out today on behalf of my dad George T. Schaab, Jr. I would like to share some background info on my dad.
Who is George T. Schaab? My dad, George, was born in 1929 in Philadelphia and will be 97 years old on February 2, 2026. He is a veteran.
George's Latest challenge:As many of you know, George Schaab is someone who would do anything for others. At this time he is the one who needs our support. My dad fell ill on Dec 14th with pneumonia and other health challenges and was admitted to the hospital for nearly 2 weeks. He had mobility challenges, diabetes 2, a pacemaker/heart issues, was hard of hearing and was dealing with blood pressure concerns prior to his admission to the hospital. Further tests in hospital revealed abnormalities with his blood requiring a blood transfusion and ongoing issues with his hemoglobin, liver, blood pressure, etc. He spent 5 days in the ICU and once stabilized the remaining days were spent monitoring his vital signs. After an evaluation with his medical team, and due to his age and medical issues/diagnosis he is facing, as well as his personal requests, additional medical interventions would not be implemented and comfort care would be the best path forward. My dad, George, will now be receiving hospice care at home which will require additional support.
New Challenges : Over the past two years, my dad's mobility issues have changed and currently was using a wheelchair and is in bed in hospice care. He had always believed that the US government would take care of him in his old age and never invested in long term care neither for himself. However, the expenses to hire caregivers is now a new additional financial burden. Most of the expenses for caregiving are out of pocket. My dad will need additional support from the morning and late afternoon as he is now bed ridden and requires more specialized /daily care. He will also need some support on week-ends and this will require more funding. The costs of caregiving with an agency can range from $30-$40 an hour. Caregivers need to be paid and any financial support can help my dad with his finances/expenditures. My goal is to give him the support and care he deserves.
My Dad
My dad has spent his life being the hero and serving his country and the community—let’s be the support he needs now. Every dollar will help provide my dad, George with the care and security he has earned through a lifetime of service. Thank you for your kindness!
