Recently I awoke to a stalker standing over me in the night and I lost my voice screaming him out of my house! He heard me! I am safe!
I lost work due to exhaustion, trauma, and dealing with the police, the courts, and the doctor. More work will be lost to court and doctors in June. And in the meantime, I am on vocal rest, making it too challenging for me to work with the little ones as usual. I am not sure how long I will need to rest my voice, but I have lost three weeks with them so far.
Originally I planned to ask for money so that I could go to several songleading events without losing too much ground on the homefront. I have been deeply honored in being offered an opportunity in October to attend a gathering at Esalen of the cream of the crop songleaders of our time including some that I have been dreaming of meeting for years!
My costs for that gathering are $380, plus travel expenses. In addition to the time off of work for that and for Singing Alive, Song Village, OCF and Summer Camp, where I am also leading songs, I am losing 5 weeks of the work I get paid for! And all of that is in addition to losing work to heal my voice and go to court. I believe it is all supporting my future as a songleader and our future as a community, but it is costly and the rewards are not visible in the financial realm yet.
My singers are pulling together and singing out strong while patiently reading messages from me and supporting each other in remembering lyrics, dynamics, rhythm, and melodies. I am grateful for their ongoing support, and I am not paid by all of them as several are struggling in their own right and on limited income with expenses that don't leave extra for singing. It is important to me that community singing be available to everyone who wants to sing, but not being paid by everyone makes it challenging to make a living wage leading songs in Eugene, Or, up until now. I dream of the day when enough people are singing with Singing Heart that I won't feel it when those who can't pay don't. In the meantime, can you help me get to these songleading opportunities to help me grow myself for my choir?
