Helping Create Peace in Uganda’s Election — An Urgent Request

In Uganda, a national election is approaching, and that typically means disorder and violence. This has already begun in some areas. Five years ago, during the last election—at the height of COVID—we supported a continuous group Transcendental Meditation program in a poor neighborhood of Kampala, called Katwe. The change was remarkable. Violence in that area - and even the whole country, dropped to nothing. Election day itself was peaceful. Even when the election outcome was contested, the violence did not return.

COVID regulations had restricted the group to 280. We were able to provide simple daily food so the group could meditate together twice a day over a 50-day period. Afterward, each participant received a certificate recognizing their contribution to peace. They treasure those certificates to this day.

Now, as Uganda faces another difficult election, those same meditators are asking to organize the group again. They are ready. They know their meditations bring peace. The need is real. And the timing is critical.

To support approximately 300 meditators with basic food, space, chairs, and local coordination through the election period until the end of January, the total budget is $13,500.

• $3,000 has already been raised and sent to Uganda for starting up.

We urgently need to send $3,500 more on the 15 December

• We need to send another $3,500 by the end of December

• The remaining $3,500 is needed by mid-January
