A Life-Changing Day: My Story
April 2nd, 2025, is a day my family and I will never forget. That afternoon, while at work, I experienced seizure-like activity and was rushed to the emergency room. The next thing I remember is waking up in an ambulance, confused and scared. Soon, I saw my mother and my husband, Jose, by my side. I didn’t know what had happened—I only knew something was very wrong.
The doctors immediately ordered an MRI to check my brain. As I lay there, lightheaded and disoriented, all I could think about was my children. Had they been picked up from school? Were they okay? Did they know what was happening to their mom?
I was admitted overnight for observation and started on anti-seizure medication. Unfortunately, the medication caused a dangerous drop in my white blood cell count, and I required two blood transfusions. My body did not respond well, and I was moved to the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I underwent countless MRIs, CT scans, and constant bloodwork.
Eventually, the neurologist delivered news that changed everything: I was diagnosed with multiple cavernous malformations in my brain. On April 2nd, the largest one had ruptured, causing a brain bleed. I learned that this condition is genetic—and that my brother also has it. My heart sank, not just for myself, but for my children, niece, and nephew.
The doctors told me I would need brain surgery within the next 1–3 months. However, I didn’t have medical insurance at the time due to losing Medicaid and ongoing financial difficulties. By the grace of God, I was recently able to secure coverage, and we are now preparing for the next steps. The surgery will require a week-long hospital stay and at least six weeks of recovery.
Because of this life-altering diagnosis and the intense road to recovery ahead, my husband and I have made the difficult decision that I must resign from my job. My position requires full-time commitment, and I must now focus on healing and being present for my family—as a wife, mother, and, most importantly, as someone fighting to regain her health.
The medical bills are already overwhelming, and we know there are more to come. We are currently fundraising to help cover these expenses and support our family through this challenging time.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who has stood by us with love, support, and prayers. Your kindness means more than words can express. May God bless you and your families.
With gratitude,
