Last week, our world was turned upside down.
My dad, David French, was just diagnosed with stage 4 laryngeal cancer. For weeks, he thought he had a bad cold and couldn’t understand why his voice never fully came back. When he finally went to the doctor, they discovered a tumor in his throat pressing on his voice box.
On February 11th, David will undergo a 7-hour surgery at Dartmouth Hospital. This surgery is necessary and lifesaving, but it will permanently change his life. He will lose his natural voice and, over time, will need to rely on a voice prosthesis/voice device to communicate again.
David is a United States Marine and Vietnam War veteran who served his country with courage and honor. Anyone who knows him knows this: he would give you the shirt off his back. He is kind, generous, and always the first person to help someone in need.
Now, he needs help.
Between major surgery, hospital stays, recovery time, specialized medical equipment, follow-up treatments, and everyday expenses while he focuses on healing, the financial burden is overwhelming. This GoFundMe is meant to help ease that burden so David can focus on what matters most — fighting cancer and recovering.
The funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly toward the many expenses David will face during and after his cancer surgery and recovery.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Major surgery and extended hospital stays
Follow-up appointments, treatments, and ongoing medical care
Specialized medical equipment needed during healing and long-term recovery
A voice prosthesis/device and related therapy to help him communicate again
Medical supplies, medications, and home care needs
Travel to and from Dartmouth Hospital and related expenses
Everyday living expenses while he focuses on healing and regaining strength
While the surgery itself is a critical step, the recovery and long-term adjustments that follow are just as significant. Losing his natural voice and adapting to new medical realities will require time, support, and resources.
Our goal is to raise enough to not only help with the immediate medical costs, but also to support David in the months ahead as he heals, learns new ways to communicate, and adjusts to life after surgery.
Any amount raised beyond immediate expenses will go toward ongoing care and quality-of-life needs as he moves forward.
Any donation, share, or kind word means more than we can express. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping David in your thoughts and prayers.
We will update this page as he moves through surgery and recovery.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting a Marine, a veteran, and a truly good man.
With gratitude,
Tina & Family
