At just 16, Kristy and her mother, Heather were confronted with a parent's worst nightmare—Kristy was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. Together, they braved the torment of chemotherapy and radiation, and Kristy was given a second chance at life.
26 years later, a seemingly harmless rash on Kristy's nipple quickly gave way to another devastating journey. She initially dismissed as minor, but it was only during a routine check that a nurse urged her to investigate it further. The shocking discovery: Mammary Paget’s Disease, a rare breast cancer. Kristy’s ordeal didn’t end there. Despite no initial signs of a lump, a post-surgery pathology revealed a pea-sized aggressor—triple negative invasive breast cancer.
Having already endured radiation at 16, it was not an option to have it again in the same area. Further tests revealed additional cancer in her breast, and the only choice was a mastectomy. Doctors advised urgency—surgery within three months, but the public health system's delay meant a six-month wait. Determined to not lose precious time, Kristy and Heather opted for private surgery, facing an overwhelming $12,000 bill, not to mention ongoing expenses.
Kristy is now moving back home to confront this battle with her mum once again. The emotional and physical toll on both will be immense, but together, they stand resilient. Let's unite to lift the financial burden from Kristy’s shoulders, allowing her to channel every ounce of strength into recovery and rebuilding her life. She deserves our unwavering support.
