US Navy veteran needs your  help and support to pay for needed medical supplies and equipment. Richard served his country for 7 years then worked to support his family of 9 (eight children).

His work had him lifting over 300 lb. and involved a large amount of physical labor. He had no health issues and was working 250 miles away from home when he was found unconscious in his parked car.

He was life-flighted to the hospital where they found that his eardrum had ruptured causing bacterial meningitis. The officer that found him said that the pressure from the eardrum rupturing must have been very intense because the infection residue was across the passenger seat and side window.

Richard was in a coma for 5 weeks and has been in the hospital for a total of 134 days. Within that time he went from 230 lb. muscular man to 160 lb. invalid. He has a tracheotomy, a feeding tube and sever stroke like symptoms. Though he is starting to regain some control of his body the Dr.s say that with this brain injury, we won't know the true extent of the damage for 18 months to two years.

The Dr.s say he can come home but his employer terminated him 2 weeks after going into a coma canceling his insurance. The VA is unable to help because this isn't service related and Medicaid has declined him because they do not find him disabled. We are currently working to appeal Medicaid's decision but it could take 3 to 6 months. In order to bring Richard home, he needs medical equipment and supplies now.

Our goal is to raise $50,000, fifty thousand dollars, to cover his medical equipment (hospital bed, oxygen generator, lift, wheelchair, ramp), supplies and to purchase a used wheelchair van for his transport.
