For those of you who do not have the pleasure of knowing Tim I would like to take a moment to introduce you to him. A kind and caring man who always has time to help anyone in need, a gardener, vegetarian, woodworker, loving son and a younger brother. He is all of these amazing things. One of the things he is most amazing at is being a husband to Kassey. The love story of Kass and Tim, though shorter than some, is a true testament to living your life to the fullest with the person you love for as long as you are given.
After meeting through mutual friends they discovered they had much in common, they both had big dreams and big hearts. They planned for adventure and tackled life head on, together. After saving up their money, they signed up through the WWOOF program to go live, work and learn on organic farms across the country. The first great road trip began with a stay at a vineyard in Michigan picking grapes, then it was off again to Arizona, California, Oklahoma and Ohio. They did everything from chicken farming to pruning fruit trees and loved every minute.

They came home excited and ready to start the next chapter of their lives. A beautiful backyard ceremony was held at Kassey’s parent’s home to make it official, husband and wife, it was the happiest day! Two wonderful people now joined together for life, they were as close as any two people could be, best friends and soul mates. They purchased a piece of land in upper Michigan and made plans to build an earth bag home there. Over the next few years they saved up money while working and staying with family, helping out Kassey’s parents when her father needed a major heart operation and Tim’s grandparents when his grandfather had a stroke. For the most part they spent their winter’s here in Wisconsin and their summers up at their land working on the house they hoped to someday live in together.

This summer they took a roadtrip with Kassey’s family to Idaho to celebrate her grandfather’s 80th birthday. After coming home Tim felt a little off and was experiencing some stomach pain. There was no time to worry about it as they were off again to their land to work on their house. The trip was cut short when the pain became too much to ignore. They came home and went to their doctor who ordered a CT scan. The scan showed a lot of fluid and a follow up appointment was made. Before they could meet for the appointment however the pain became too much to bear and Kass took Tim to the ER. After exploratory surgery it was found that he had a hole in his stomach and they had to drain it and patch him up. Another surgery was expected and in the meantime he was sent up to the ICU to heal. During the original surgery a biopsy of the tissue around the hole was taken, it came back with abnormal cells and a second biopsy was ordered. Yesterday that biopsy was done and today we received the diagnosis of stage 4 cancer. There are no words to say how frightening and devastating news like that is.
Both Kass and Tim work full time jobs here in Berlin. Kassey works at the daycare that her nieces attend and Tim is a technician at the local car dealership. Kass has not left Tim since the whole ordeal started and while they are both not working medical and day to day life bills are piling up. It is hard to deal with practical things when you are handed a diagnosis like this and it is my hope that we can help take some of that burden from her. When told about this account however, Kassey said the bills don’t matter if we can do anything for Tim I want to use the money for that. When I asked what he would want to do with it she said, he has always wanted to go to a botanical garden if we could make that happen for him he would be happy. We do not yet know how much time Tim has left or what that time will look like so whether a short day trip to make him smile is feasible or just a small burden of day to day bills is lifted, the money will go for whatever they need most. If you can’t donate please just keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for any help you give and love you send, it is all appreciated.
