Love and Support for Kelly Becker

It is with a heavy heart that many of you are finding out that one of our beloved Bowie Moms, Kelly Becker, will be heading into surgery for a double mastectomy on January 18th.  Kelly is a carrier of the BRCA1 gene.  As she moved closer to her 40th birthday in January of 2021, she knew this would be the year that she willingly would move forward with her double mastectomy surgery.  She has been diligent about getting her scans and tests every 6 months and never expected to see a 5cm tumor appear in October that was not there 3 months before.  Life has been moving very quickly in an already difficult year.

Kelly, her husband Brian, and two beautiful girls (Aryana- sophomore and Ashley- 6th grade) just moved to Austin two short years ago from New York.  They left behind much of their family, friends, and community.  Both Kelly and Brian, are active volunteers for the Bowie High School Band.  Kelly Becker served on the Band Booster Board as a freshman parent, and has put in countless hours of behind-the- scenes work, lending her expert bookkeeping skills as the Assistant Treasurer, Finance Committee Member and Mr. Gundersen's Band finance support volunteer. 

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Kelly or volunteering alongside her, you know that she is warm, funny, has a true servant's heart and is pure sweetness to her very core.

The unexpected surgery date has left the Becker family little time to plan for the loss of Kelly's income through her 4 months of recovery.  Let's come together as a community to help support Kelly and her family as they get ready to walk through the most difficult phase of their family story.  Any bit of help is beyond appreciated, as well as prayers and love.
