Two years ago, I unexpectedly lost both my mother, Michaelle Robardey, and my grandfather, Paul Caldwell (Hippo), within just two weeks of one another. As my mother’s only child and my grandfather’s only living relative, I’ve been solely responsible for handling everything; managing out-of-state funeral arrangements for both of them, covering my mother’s mortgage in Louisiana, paying non-stop bills, managing multiple estates/probate, preserving family heirlooms in storage, and so, so much more. It's all on me and me alone to keep everything afloat.
The funeral expenses have been paid in full, but there is remaining debt from burial costs. The worst part is that my mother still does not yet have her gravestone. Her birthday is coming up on September 27th, and it is my deepest wish to have her headstone by her birthday to honor her memory and give her loved ones a place to pay their respects at her gravesite in Texas.
As a single woman, with no support or assistance, being in this position is beyond overwhelming in every way; physically/mentally/financially/emotionally. It's all just A LOT.
For example: A task, like moving my mother's belongings out of her 2nd-story apartment ($1,700 mo), is next to impossible. I'm only one person.
I have tried my best to manage everything over these past two years, while juggling responsibilities and financial obligations in three different states, doing all I can just to keep my head above water. Despite my best efforts, I am sinking and on the verge of losing everything. Not only is my mother’s home in Louisiana at risk of foreclosure, but I'm losing my housing here in Portland, Oregon too. The financial and emotional toll of carrying the weight of 3 lives; myself, my mother, my grandfather, completely alone has become too great for me to continue managing on my own. This is why I'm asking for your help.
Your contribution would go to support:
Gravestone for my mother (Texas):
$1,500–$3,000
Mortgage & bills (Louisiana):
$1,500/mo to keep my mother's home safe from foreclosure until it sells
Probating Hippo’s will (Texas):
$2,500 to settle his estate
Burial cost debt (Texas):
$3,000
Other estate costs & essential expenses (everywhere); storage fees, additional bills, etc.
The funding goal to make all this possible: $20,000
Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference. If you aren’t able to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with those who can would mean the world to me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me to honor my mother, manage what's been left behind, and to hopefully find a little peace in the midst of this extremely trying time. Thank you so much.
