Dear friends,
In June of this year, our friend and colleague Hadie DeJesus was diagnosed with breast cancer. The news came as a complete shock while she was working abroad on a shoot, thriving in her career, and far too young to expect something like this.
The tumor was successfully removed in July, and Hadie returned to work in Spain. While her remarkably quick bounce back into work seemed a bit rapid to those of us who know and care for her, it was actually necessary to ensure her insurance plan was renewed. What a world we live in…
Hadie hoped this was the end of an already difficult road. However, unfortunately, there was more bad news on the horizon. Further testing revealed that this specific type of tumor has an ‘aggressive recurrence score’, which meant her doctors recommended a more intensive treatment plan that now includes chemotherapy. She underwent her first round in October.
When she first told me of her diagnosis, I suggested reaching out to more friends for support. Hadie is an intensely private person and her preference was to keep her head down and just get through it.
No doubt we have all been through personal experiences where you just want to close the door on the world until it's over. My heart broke when she phoned me last week and said, "I'm no longer in a position where I can afford to be private about this."
Anyone who has worked in the film industry knows that we form bonds that run deeper than most typical workplaces. There's something unique about what happens in the pressure cooker of a film set; working side by side, day in and day out, often on the road and far from home. We see each other at our most vulnerable - exhausted, homesick, pushed to our limits - and we show up for each other anyway.
For someone as private as Hadie to reach out means she trusts in the strength of this community and the depth of these connections. I'm here to ask you to be part of supporting her through this.
While insurance covers a portion of her medical costs, the out-of-pocket expenses remain significant.
If you're in a position to help financially, please know that any amount would make a real difference. It's absurd that someone fighting cancer also has to fight medical bills, and yet, here we are. Any amount would help ease the weight Hadie is carrying during this extraordinarily shit time.
If you are not in a position to contribute financially right now, we of course understand. Please support Hadie by keeping her in your thoughts with nothing but positivity and hope for brighter days to come.
With immense gratitude,
Gina Moss

P.s It's her birthday on Sunday 16th November. Any support would really make her day!
