Hello Everyone,
We just got word that Einar's transplant surgery has been bumped up 2 weeks to June 13th, 2016! This is great news as his health and energy have been deteriorating lately.
Many of you may already know Einar's story but for those who don't, here it is:
Just over 2 and a half years ago Einar was feeling ill and thought he had the flu. After a month of feeling nauseated, his legs began to swell up. He decided it was time to check in to the hospital and what happened after that was a whirlwind of chaos. Einar called from the hospital saying I think something is really wrong, I've never moved so fast through emergency and had so many tests ordered and doctors working on me so quickly. I met him at the hospital and it was there and then he got the news that he had stage 4 renal failure and a measly 25% function left in both his kidneys. He was 38 years old at the time of diagnosis. Him and I not comprehending the severity of the situation at the time, perhaps we were in shock or perhaps it was a lack of knowing exactly what that meant, just stared at the doctor asking; how, why and what happens now?
Since that day there have been many tests run, lots of blood taken and sent away and a couple of kidney biopsies just to further find that Einar has an extremely rare disease called Dense Deposit Disease (DDD) found only in 2-3 people per million. This DDD is likely the cause of his rapid kidney failure.
Einar has had a hard run these last few years, he has about 15 different medications to take and it is a constant balancing act between each of them, he has had a strict diet to follow and many visits to and from the kidney clinic and hospitals.
Through all these roller coasters, Einar has managed to persevere like a champion. He spends as much time with Dexter as possible, takes care of his challenged aunt and uncle and still tries to work when his body allows him, although lately that is seldom.
Now I'd like all of us to try and help Einar as he prepares for transplant surgery and a long recovery in Vancouver. He needs 5-7,000 dollars minimum for his recovery time in Vancouver as he must stay close to St. Paul's hospital for 3 months to monitor the success of the transplant closely. This money will cover accommodations, and food during his recovery. He will also be out of commission to work and care-take for his aunt and uncle so additional funds will go towards his rent and bills at home.
Einar has always been the kind of guy to help a neighbor in need, shovel a driveway for an elderly person struggling down the block, fall a tree with someone who needs a hand or pour concrete in his buddy's back yard for a few brews. He would never ask anyone for anything, that's why I am asking you please to help him now during this hard time in his life. Heck if I (his ex-wife) am willing to donate a kidney I hope you would be willing to donate a few dollars to help his cause.
If you know Einar then you know he is a very paternal individual, he loves his son with all his heart and that is why he is battling these diseases with all his might. Any donation will help him buy a meal, rent a room for another night and help keep the bills down at home is without a doubt incredibly appreciated.
A big shout out to a huge hero in my eyes Darla Madsen (Einar's Mom) for being the one selected to donate her kidney and get the job done. We said from the get go "may the best kidney win" and apparently that is hers. She too will have a long recovery ahead but she is one tough cookie and a brave soul!!!
In addition to contributing financially, we are accepting all prayers, good wishes, and positive thoughts and if you'd like to help make meals for Einar's return, you can contact me Pamela Madsen for Einar's meal plan and restrictions.
Please share this campaign on Facebook and via email as there are many people in Naramata, Penticton and Kamloops who may want to contribute to Einar's recovery.
Thank you all kindly for your support,
Pam.
