Cody is 5 year old boy living in the small town of Nangus with his twin Sister Bree, mum and dad. As a friend of Peta’s (mum) I know that this journey has not been an easy road for any one in the family. If you have watched their story on the SBS Australia show, ‘Struggle Street’, you’ll know just how difficult this is. In the hopes of helping little Cody, we would like to raise much needed funds for his ongoing medical bills, and to ensure he has a positive livelihood with his family in Country, NSW.
Ever since birth Cody has been facing doctors and specialists with consistent effort of trying to work out what is going on for Cody. He has had a number of visits to neurology, endocrinology, urology, immunology, kidney specialists, pediatricians, and the list goes on. Cody has 2 genetic conditions; Dents Disease Type 1 (kidney condition) that impacts his speech and physical development as well as a gene mutation (outcome is still inconclusive). The other, mutation of the RANBP2 gene which is known to cause encephalitis (brain inflammation due to infection).
Cody has been poked and prodded for as long as he can remember whilst his medical team are trying so hard to come up with answers, and best possible treatment options. However, given Cody’s rarity, the answers are scarce and options even less. He faces infections regularly, and particularly suffering during the winter months. He will also be starting on Hormone treatments in the next 12 months which when you see him next to his twin sister, makes an awful lot of sense. He will continue this until he is 16, which will bring it’s own set of complications also.
Living in Nangus, the family travel every day of the week for services in Wagga Wagga, and specialist appointments and treatments in Sydney (unavailable in Wagga Wagga). Despite receiving local support the family always has new costs and unknowns to account for, living constantly under stress.
Your generous support and donation through GoFundMe will allow this family the opportunity for the first time in 5 years to breathe, knowing they won’t have to scrounge around for money, or put out their hands and ask for more each time a hurdle appears. It will afford them not only the ability to pay for all their travel costs but to also ensure Cody and Bree have a guilt free livelihood.
