Supported seating for mìa amor in nursery
I am mìa amor's mam and I'm trying to raise funds for a supported chair for mìa to have in nursery. The Local authority will only fund one chair that mìa has at home that has to stay in the home. Mia has a significant neurological condition and scoliosis. She is unable to sit independently and needs a specialist seat to enable her to access play and learning activities in the nursery setting.
Mia needs full assistance with transfers and a seat on a height adjustable base would allow her to access a wide range of activities as well as reducing the moving and handling risk to carers. Mia is currently being held on the knee of a member of staff or lies on the floor. We have loaned nursery a Special Tomato floor chair but this does not give her sufficient support to enable her to take part in activities. She is able to sit well in her supported in her specialist buggy but this is not height adjustable so she can’t access table top activities or interact with her peers in this. Without the chair Mia will not be able to take part in the full range of nursery activities resulting in a negative impact on her social, cognitive and physical development. Nursery staff will be placed at increased risk of muscular or skeletal injury due to increased moving and handling strain. We have an invoice for the be me chair and would hope to be able to purchase the supported chair for nursery and future education mìa goes on to this chair would last for minimum 5 years
