Support Chester B Adams' Life-Saving Surgery
Donation protected
**See below for updates on Saturday August 17th, 1:30pm**
Hey friends and family. Welcome to the GoFundMe page for our loving father, Chester B Adams.
On August 7th, 2024, Chester unfortunately suffered a heart attack, had heart failure, and developed an extensive aortic dissection that now requires emergency open heart and valvular surgery.
We are in dire need of help with funding the lifesaving surgery that is critically needed ASAP.
As of Friday evening (August 9th), he is currently still admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital of the West Indies but needs to be airlifted to Florida and admitted to one of the most reputable hospitals in the US for his procedure.
He will be undergoing a heart and valvular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida under the hands of Dr C Sheffield, an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated, as this is a time sensitive event. Please aid in our attempt to save the life of our father. We know he is very loved by the community and is a great friend and mentor to all.
Love & Blessings,
The Adams Family

We just found out we'll need to pay a $300,000 USD deposit for them to transfer him to the US hospital for this lifesaving operation. This is a very urgent situation.
**Update Saturday, August 10th at 2:00pm**
Due to the excessive funds needed to proceed with the operation in Florida, along with a very urgent time constraint for Chester to get this operation before it's too late, the decision was made for him to stay in Jamaica and undergo the surgery at the University Hospital of the West Indies.
**Update Saturday, August 10th at 6:00pm**
As of 4:30pm, Chester has officially gone into surgery. Although we're relieved they were able to get started on him so quickly, this will be a very complex surgery that will likely last around 12 hours. We are incredibly grateful for everyone's messages of love, prayers, and generous donations.
**Update Sunday, August 11 at 9:00am**
Good news! Chester successfully completed part one of his surgical journey around 3:45am this morning. Our father's strength definitely pulled through last night, as this procedure had about a 30-40% survival rate. He's currently sedated and intubated in the ICU unit and the first 24 hours post-op will be the most critical for recovery.
As it pertains to the surgery, he had aortic valve replacement, and repair of the ascending aorta (the most life-threatening part of the vessel that was damaged). The other damaged vessels and the rest of the dissected aorta will require further surgery at a later date (part two). At this moment, post-op care will definitely require him to be in the hospital for an extended period of time for recovery and rehabilitation.
**Update Saturday August 17th, 11:00am**
Good morning,
Chester is critically ill at the moment and the chances of him surviving are very low. Unfortunately, he has taken a turn for the worst.
As of now he has had 5 cardiac arrests with resuscitation in close succession. He has a terrible lung infection with multiple bacteria for which is getting multiple high powered antibiotics. He has bilateral kidney failure for which he needs urgent dialysis (unavailable currently because he is too ill to get it). And his blood studies are extremely poor. He is severely anemic with very low platelets (for clotting blood and preventing bleeding).
On the positive side, the cardiothoracic aspect of his health has been going well. The valve has taken well, the repaired area of the dissection is doing well and the stent has also taken well. His body has not rejected any of the implants thus far.
PLEASE pray and thank you all for supporting our family.

It's with great sadness that our father passed away at 1:13pm today. We're still in shock and can't believe this has happened. Our family can't thank you enough for all of your incredible support. Please keep us in your prayers.
