Support Hypobaric Oxygen Therapy for Cheryl
Donation protected
In November of 2017, our mother, Cheryl Melendez, a hardworking and selfless woman serving as a neonatal nurse and working in medical field since high school, suffered an ischemic stroke which has left her paralyzed on the left side of her body.
Cheryl has spent her whole life putting others first, caring for the sick, and always making sure the people in her life were well cared for, loved, and happy.
Her insurance hasn't supported the long-term and crucial treatment and rehabilitation needed in order to heal and recover, leaving her to seek other options, none which are affordable.
She has recently been accepted for a study in Pennsylvania which uses Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to aid in the repair and recovery of her body's functionality.

When cells in the brain die, either from trauma or lack of oxygen, blood plasma leaks out into surrounding brain tissue causing swelling and reducing blood flow. These otherwise normal cells go dormant because they can’t function without the appropriate amount of oxygen. HBOT dramatically increases the oxygen carried in the blood plasma, making oxygen available to heal damaged capillary walls, preventing plasma leakage and reducing swelling. As the swelling decreases, blood flow can be restored to the dormant tissue (neovascularization) and these cells then have the potential to function again.
Since her stroke, our mom has been unable to work resulting in financial stress on the family as we struggle to make ends meet. Without being able to afford rehabilitation or any further treatment, it is difficult for her to recover. The acceptance of this study is a huge success and step forward in Cheryl's road to recovery.
Her treatment is set to being April 1st and will run for six-weeks.
We are asking for funding in order to cover her travel costs for this study.
Marah, Cheryl’s youngest daughter, has postponed her Spring Semester of college to accompany our mom as caretaker since she is unable to make this trip on her own.
Any funding will go towards airfare, housing
accommodations, and transportation to and from the medical facilities.
Thank you so much for your support.
