A Second Chance For Chad

Donation protected
Chad had been diagnosed with extremely aggressive  Cancer  Stage 3/4  in November 2015.

He felt blessed to have amazing healthcare and he committed to his countless blood transfusions, chemo treatments and hospital stays. Despite his pain, fear,  and exhaustion from treatments, he has NEVER let cancer define him. He Wasn’t going to let this disease take anything from him, not even his hair, so he shaved it off before it could fall out.

Chad had his 26th birthday on January 7th. Now that he is 26, he can no longer be covered under his family healthcare provider and he has lost his once amazing insurance coverage. No coverage=no treatment.  His Doctors visits and chemotherapy treatments were prolonged As we tried to get him under some type of coverage.

It was the end of February when he started to become very ill again and began vomiting, unable to eat, and was experiencing some chest pains and congestion. On March 6th, He finally agreed to go in to the ER.  By the time he was admitted, he was in critical condition. His vitals were horrible, his heart rate was up and his oxygen level low. He had  severe difficulty breathing,  and was Severely jaundiced (skin and whites of the eyes like a maze yellow color)  left feeling very tired and lethargic.  x-rays and other tests were done immediately and determined that he had pneumonia with air bubbles and water forming inside as well as outside of  lungs and a very severe and critical infection caused by his picc line that had been put in him during his previous treatment. The infection that started as a bacterial infection, had advanced to a staph infection  and  spread through out his entire blood stream through out his body and went to his heart.  As a result, a growth  formed in his right heart valve sizing in at about an inch big!! The picc line also caused  A blood clot that ranged from his elbow to his neck.

He was taken to ICU immediately where he was put on antibiotics and blood thinners and monitored for the next several days as he had countless blood transfusions done as well as CT Scans, heart exams, xrays, ect. He was eventually moved to the oncology unit. That’s when we found out that  his cancer had spread with vengeance.

Chads body has weakened, making him inoperable and he is unresponsive to the antibiotics making him difficult to treat. Chad is no longer being treated for Cancer, and cannot undergo chemotherapy, due to his critical state. His body just cannot take it at this time.  He has countless specialists working with him around the clock, each one trying to figure out the next step and another way to save his life.  He needs many serious surgeries and procedures done, but the risk is far too great at this time, and with the medications not working, he has nothing except his will to live, faith and support of his loved ones to make it through this. chad has shown strength and positivity in the face of constant bad news from his doctors.

They are doing whatever they can to make him as comfortable as possible.  Chad is fighting.  And he has fought as hard as he could, but at this juncture, there isn't much more the medical professionals could do except to make him as comfortable as possible.  We were told he may have 6 months, and Hospice was recommended and Doctors spoke of placing him on a ventilator to assist him with breathing to let his body rest. But If you know Chad at all, then you know he is very suborn. And, well, he isn’t ready to give up yet and throw the towel. Chads fighting harder than he ever before.  We've had a few set backs and  he's made a few more trips to the ICU, but Chad is slowly making progress.  His vitals are stabilizing, and  is now breathing on his own.  Despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles, tough times, and everything mentioned above, Chad has maintained his sense of humor and positive attitude. His strength, determination and positivity during this difficult time are nothing short of inspirational.

He has been at the hospital for a little over a month now, and During his time in the hospital, he's been working incredibly hard with the rehabilitation staff every day and has already achieved major milestones on the road to recovery;  he is close to walking on his own again and is able to move on his own; however, he is still unable to undergo necessary procedures and surgeries and he's not ready or able to go home at this time and will need additional rehabilitation and care at a facility that has yet to be determined.

Chad Stephen Rife is one of the most kind, caring, energetic, strongest, most selfless, best-hearted people I have ever met in my life. I am setting up this page in support of Chad with hopes that together, we can help relieve some of the financial burden and offset the cost of Chads medical expenses that continue to grow as well as his care, and anything he may need in the foreseeable future.  He still has a long road ahead of him physically and emotionally. Any help- kind words, prayers, or donation in any amount is gratefully accepted.

** Be assured that every single cent raised here will be given directly to Chad and used to improve his critical health condition. ** Anything Helps!! God Bless!!**
