Many of you know Beth - a wonderful friend, loving mother, and skilled writer - but don't know what she's been going through these past few months. It's with sadness that we want to let everyone know about Beth's glioblastoma - a malignant, cancerous brain tumor.
We found out about this in August. It's been a long fight, which is still ongoing. Beth has had seizures, undergone brain surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, and been in and out of hospitals and rehab centers. Some of these treatments had some success, but the side effects have been overwhelming. Beth is steadily losing her ability to move, as well as her strength and energy.
Beth's going home soon, in an attempt to regain some strength and some hope. We want to make the best of the time Beth has left. We created this GoFundMe for a few reasons:
to let the people in Beth's life to know what's going on;
to raise funds for nursing for Beth's care;
and to give the people who love Beth other opportunities to help out. Your kindness is as valuable as a financial donation.
You can donate financially through this page, and you can email [email redacted] to get in touch with Beth's sons, Doug and Matt, if you'd like to visit Beth or help out in some other way.
Beth spent 40 years as a medical librarian. In 2017, she self-published a novel, A Life Rebuilt , about Swedish immigrants in Chicago at the turn of the 20th century. Beth is the proud and loving mother of Matt and Doug, who have been at her side throughout this latest struggle. She lives in Libertyville with her husband Scott and her dog Erin, who's excited to have her mom home.
