Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about my wonderful, beautiful sister Leimomi "Momi" Malia Kaleiwahea, who tragically passed away on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017.

My amazing sister Momi suffered from epilepsy ever since she was 7 years old.  It was caused by viral encephalitis that left scar tissue on her brain.  For over 33 years of her life, Momi had to live with the unpredictability of seizures, along with a myriad of powerful anti-seizure medications that had to be taken at night due to the strong sedative effects.  It’s pretty hard to imagine, let alone adequately describe, how much this seizure disorder affected Momi’s life.  So much so that she finally decided to have surgery last summer to remove the scar tissue, in the hopes that she could live and enjoy the rest of her life seizure-free.   Despite a few initial set-backs, the results of her surgery were very encouraging and she was planning on returning to work at the Internal Revenue Service in February.

But in the early morning hours of January 2nd, 2017, Momi lost her balance and tragically fell down the stairs at home.  She remained in a coma for the next 9 days in the Neurosensory Intensive Care Unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.  On Tuesday, January 10th, we had to make THE MOST  incredibly difficult and heart-wrenching decision...to take Momi off of life support.

In addition to so many loving family members, friends and co-workers, Momi leaves behind her incredibly special, loving, and precious little 5-year-old son, William “Liam” Xavier Venango.  Liam is my nephew and godson; he's the sweetest and the most loveable little boy I’ve ever known!  This little angel was diagnosed with autism when he was 2 years old.  And ever since that time, Momi had focused every ounce of her attention, time and energy on making sure that Liam received all of the services and resources he needed.

Our family and I am raising funds to help support Liam.  All of the funds that we raise will be held in a “Special Needs Trust” for his benefit.  The funds will help support Liam’s future special educational needs as well as any financial support he may need throughout his life.

Thank you so very much for all of your love, support and generosity!

Mo, my sweet little sister, we love and miss you more and more each and every day.  And I'm sure you know how much Liam misses his mommy.  I hope you hear him every night say "good night mommy" as Bill or Mom tucks him into bed.  I promise you that we will all love, protect, support and care for Liam for the rest of our lives.  We will keep, cherish and share our memories of you with Liam so he never forgets who his Mommy was and how much she loved him.  Rest in peace my sweet pumpkin.
