Support Jessica Alonso's Lung Transplant Recovery

Hello, my name is Miryam Calix and I am reaching out as my sister's caregiver.

My very loved sister Jessica Alonso, a spouse and mother of two little boys, has undergone a double lung transplant. Praise to God, my sister's lung transplant team found a donor and had her surgery on October 5th, 2024, at UPenn Hospital in Philadelphia.

Prior to surgery, her lungs were in very poor condition, and she was using an oxygen tank 24/7. Her lungs had developed severe pulmonary hypertension, which basically means her heart was working too hard trying to keep up with her lungs. In addition, the vessels in the heart towards the lungs became weak. As a DACA recipient she doesn’t qualify for state assistance nor an affordable medical insurance. She must pay most of all the recovery expenses.

Jessica is the cornerstone of her family. Growing up, my oldest sibling, Jessica, has always been the coordinator of our family. It is our turn to take care of her. Anyone that knows her knows that she is fun to be around, there's always laughter around her, she's an amazing mom, she's funny, and such a sweet person.

Please help me to take the lead in preparing her for the road ahead. It will be long and challenging.

Our family is preparing for:

- Frequent 2-hour trips to the hospital

- Relocating family to a new state for 6 months post-surgery

- Covering the costs of potential 24/7 live-in caretakers post-transplant

- Managing school and weekend hospital visits for the children

Your help will directly support Jessica and her family's ability to be by her side. All funds raised will go towards:

- Medical expenses not covered by insurance

- Travel costs for family members

- Temporary relocation near the hospital for therapy 3-4 times a week

- Caretaker fees during recovery

- Supporting the family's daily needs while displaced

- Jessica will be required to take anti-rejection medications for the rest of her life that cost hundreds of dollars.
