Love and Support for Gavin

After a full-term pregnancy with no indications of any medical concerns, Loryn, Deanna, and his extremely proud older brother, Mason (2 years old), welcomed Gavin Dean Steinrad into their family and world on August 1, 2015.
Gavin has spent all but 19 days in the hospital battling for his life. His first 22 days were spent in the NICU, at LB Memorial, and the rest have been spent at UCLA. Gavin underwent jaw surgery to help move his lower jaw forward with the hopes it would help him breathe easier. Unfortunately his procedures (jaw surgery, intubations or anesthesia) caused him to lose his ability to cough, swallow, and suck on his passy. These are all part of motor skills and neuromuscular functions.

Gavin is now in Respiratory Failure. Although he is not oxygen deprived, his ability to expel toxic C02 gas from his blood is not happening at the proper rate. This is caused by a failure of his respiratory center, lack of muscle tone in his lungs and airway and his inability to inhale/exhale deep enough to expel the C02.

The Steinrad family has been informed of a certain oxygen/medicine therapy which could help Gavin regain operation in his respiratory center. By no means is this guaranteed but when you are facing the grim reality of a situation any non-invasive treatment could be that miracle you were hoping and searching for. So as of today, the family has begun Gavin’s road home. Gavin will be on continued hospice care which will allow him to go home and continue to be treated by his doctors while we press on with this therapy. With the right physical therapy, quiet, nurturing environment and with the support of hospice Gavin could overcome this diagnosis.

The Steinrads are the nicest people on the planet and would be the first to give you the shirt of their back if you needed one. This is the season of giving and helping those we love, care about, and those we do not know in need.
The New Year signifies different things to different people...a new start, a new diet, a new savings plan, a new job...but it also signifies a new year for medical deductibles.
For the people that know the Steinrads personally, you know they would never ask for a penny and there is no reason we should allow them to ask.
Please help us raise some funds to help this beautiful family.
