Zuriyah is a poet passionate about Wicca and developing a trans/queer community. She's a disabled Black pansexual trans woman who has spent nearly half of her life in prison. After undergoing the abuse and trauma of 19 years behind bars she FINALLY has a release date (May 1st). This means she will still have to spend her 40th birthday in prison but after that she will be released to a halfway house in New York where she will be confined by an ankle monitor.
I'm fortunate enough to be able to visit Zuriyah in May to give her the first hug she's gotten in 11 years. I'm hoping to also deliver her a bit of a savings. When Zuriyah's out she's hoping to start HRT, obtain access to gender affirming surgeries, and begin a life time of healing. My goal of $20,000 is in hopes to give her access to therapy, medical care, clothes that reflect her gender, delicious nutritious food, and save for eventual housing of her own. I want her to have material support waiting for her on the outside so she won't be released with only the clothes on her back and the two garbage bags full of clothing and a couple books she's permitted to leave with. Would you please contribute as you're able? Any amount helps! Please consider circulating in your community as well. Thank you!!
