Hi friends!
My cat Zooey has been dealing with a myriad of medical issues since October. She was very lethargic and lost a lot of weight, and we found that she had hyperthyroidism. As soon as she started the medication, she perked back up and is closer to a healthy weight now. We haven't been able to find the right dosage of her medication yet, but we recently found a new vet that I believe is going to make the best recommendations for Zooey. They identified results in Zooey's blood work from October that showed she also has kidney disease, and we started switching her to a special kidney diet right away. I feel like we are finally moving in the right direction!
In December, she started squinting. Initially misdiagnosed as conjunctivitis, the eye drops prescribed as treatment cause much more damage. A week later, she had a massive ulcer in her eye. She also has entropion in both eyes, which is when the eyelids flip in toward the eye, exposing her eye to hairs that cause irritation and injury.
We were originally going to pursue eye surgery and met with an ophthalmologist and a cardiologist, but after meeting with the new vet and really discussing Zooey's situation, I decided to focus on other priorities, like managing her kidney disease and hyperthyroidism.
I've had her since she was a few weeks old. She's my girl, my Love-Bug, my Bugzilla. She's been there for me through breakups, deaths, sickness, divorce. She has my heart. I love her so much and will do anything I can to help her!
You've all been so generous. I cannot explain how touched I am by your kindness and how grateful I am to know all of you. You've helped me pay for all of Zooey's appointments, testing, and medications since this started in October. You've helped me give my old girl the best life possible and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
