Hi, I’m Zoey Swanson

A nursing student with a heart for healing. I’ve always known I wanted to dedicate my life to helping others. As a student at Denver College of Nursing, I’ve worked hard toward that goal — and now, I’ve been offered an incredible opportunity to serve on an international mission trip through our Global Health Perspectives (GHP) program.

What is GHP?

This program provides immersive, cross-cultural experiences for nursing students to deliver healthcare and education in underserved communities around the world. I’ll be working alongside fellow student nurses to offer basic medical care, health education, and compassionate support to individuals who often lack access to even the most essential resources.

This mission is about more than gaining clinical experience — it’s about serving with heart, spreading compassion, and applying what I’ve learned in a way that makes a lasting difference. I’m honored to be part of something so meaningful and excited to represent my school, my community, and the nursing profession on a global scale.

Why I Chose Nursing:

As a young adult exploring different career paths, I found myself drawn to roles centered around helping others. While the options varied, a common theme stood out: I wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives — especially those who may not be able to care for themselves.

Growing up, I was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis — a condition that was both life-changing and challenging. I spent a lot of time in hospitals, and during those moments, the support, compassion, and care from the healthcare teams around me made all the difference. Even when there wasn’t a cure, their presence brought me comfort, hope, and strength.

That experience has shaped how I see the world and how I want to show up in it. It taught me empathy, resilience, and the power of connection. Now, as a nursing student, I want to be the kind of nurse who cares holistically — tending not just to physical symptoms but to the emotional and mental well-being of my patients too. My goal is to empower others, offer comfort, and be a steady source of support during some of life’s hardest moments.

I didn’t fully grasp the concept of having a calling until I found nursing. But once I did, I knew — this is where I’m meant to be.
