As you may have heard, our sister, friend and artist, Zoé Johnson aka Zoé SOUNDmind has been going through some serious health challenges.

In early May, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, Zoé was admitted to Toronto General Hospital for 3 weeks where she received a diagnosis of end stage kidney disease and immediately began receiving dialysis treatment to prevent complete kidney failure.

The onset of this diagnosis has brought on unexpected expenses for essentials including but not limited to the following: a walker, a
shower seat, a bed, specific dietary requirements, counselling support.

This new reality is proving profoundly stressful; her mental well-being is deeply impacted, as she grapples with limited mobility, isolation, anxiety and financial hardship due to the pandemic.

We’re reaching out to friends and family to help support our sister at this time. This much needed assistance will provide Zoé with the supplies and the equipment she needs to settle into her new routines with safety and ease.

The goal is to position Zoé so she can completely direct her focus to restoring her health and subsequently return to living a fully deserved and healthy creative life.

Here are some things you may or may not know about our sister...

Zoé SOUNDmind has been a sound technician/musician/producer since she was 15 yrs old. She is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, electric bass, keyboards, percussion and drum kit. She studied Film & Media at Seneca College from where she received a degree in Audio and Visual Technology. Although she has encountered many challenges as a Black woman in this field, she decided early on to be uncompromising with her skills and talents. Over the years, Zoé has had countless opportunities to work with world class artists both locally and internationally including Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ursula Rucker, Patty Smith, and The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. She has also been part of larger setup crews for U2 and Roger Waters. Zoé started a creative company named AFIMEarts that combines her technical skills as a sound technician, recording engineer and producer with her creative skills as a musician, songwriter and recording artist.
