My group and I are students at Appalachian State University. In our First Year Seminar course, we've been given the opportunity to raise money for an African-based organization this semester. So, we are raising money for Zoe Girls' Health Initiative, a non-profit organization based in Uganda to help prevent teenage pregnancy and offer support to adolescent mothers. We're working with the founder of Zoe Girls', Daphene Nayebare, to help spread awareness and fundraise for their extremely important cause.
1 in 4 Ugandan girls aged 14-19 are pregnant or have had a child. Zoe Girls' aims to provide better sex education, lower stigma around teenage pregnancy, provide support and community, and help young mothers to be educated and employed. A lot of the time, pregnant or mothering teens are prevented from finishing or pursuing higher education, and a lot of the work Daphene and Zoe Girls' do is centered around making sure these young girls have the opportunity to achieve these things.
Through our work informing and fundraising for this organization, we hope to shed light on this cause and raise enough money to make a positive difference for these girls.
Thank you.
