As a junior film student in the Cinematic Arts Production Major, we are tasked to direct a 5 and a half minute film , a core requirement of my program. Each project is individually produced, and the total budget to bring this film to life is $1,750.

I've spent a lot of time crafting this narrative to fit within 5 and a half minutes, and the final and most essential piece is securing the resources needed to produce it thoughtfully and responsibly. My producer, Ethan Hunt, and I, are humbly asking for your support to make this film possible.

My film, Negative Space, is about THEO, a young photographer trapped in a dying relationship, loneliness, and connection crisis. He finds escape in disposable cameras of a young couple he develops at work, slowly blurring the line between observation and obsession as he falls for the woman he’s never met.

This story is deeply personal. About a year ago, I watched myself unraveling inside a relationship I once believed in, holding on out of loyalty long after clarity had faded. In the aftermath, I experienced something that made me change the way I saw love, loss, and myself. This film exists because I could never unsee the moment I finally saw clearly.

Most films about grief are messy, untidy, and personal, from the perspective of our protagonist. This film is felt as if it was experienced from the outside in, as that's how my closest friends and family saw me from afar.
