Hi, my name is Dina and I am writing this on behalf of my dearest friend, Candace, and her dog, Zelda, who is in the hospital diagnosed with acute liver failure. Zelda was not feeling well Friday, and by yesterday, Sunday, she could not stop vomiting. Candace brought Zelda to the emergency vet and after hours of waiting, was surprised and saddened to learn her beloved Zelda was diagnosed with acute liver failure. Her liver enzymes were extremely elevated. Zelda stayed overnight in the hospital while they monitored her, administered IV fluids, IV antibiotics and other medications. The cause of her liver failure is presumed to be due to an infection or a toxin but we don’t have a definitive diagnosis at this point. Zelda’s liver enzymes increased again yesterday so Candace opted to keep her in the hospital one more night and recheck her liver function tests today. Unfortunately, Candace does not have pet insurance for Zelda at this time. It was an untimely oversight during the most recent open enrollment period. The veterinary and hospital costs are mounting. Meanwhile, Zelda’s prognosis is uncertain.
Zelda is a sweet, fun loving, at times goofy girl, who loves the outdoors, playing with other dogs, especially her bff Molly, and being with her family. She was previously healthy and we would be over joyed if we are able to celebrate her 3rd birthday with her in June. A donation in any amount to help offset vet bills, hospitalization expenses, medications and future care would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read Zelda’s story.
