I'm reaching out today on behalf of some great friends, Zarina and Michael Houseman. Zarina is a devoted wife, a loving mom of two awesome children — one in 7th grade and one just starting kindergarten — and right now, she’s facing one of the most difficult battles life can throw at anyone.

In December 2024, Zarina was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer — and the news came just days after being laid off from her job. What should have been a time to regroup and focus on family became a sudden, heartbreaking fight for her health, her future, and her life.

Her Journey So Far

Zarina began chemotherapy with bravery and determination. But after just two rounds, she faced a terrifying complication and setback. Her chemo port became infected, leading to sepsis. She spent several weeks in the hospital, fighting for her life yet again.

Thankfully, she pulled through and was able to return home to begin radiation treatments. Now, she’s finished radiation and moving forward with oral chemotherapy pills — but the cost, even with insurance, is absolutely crushing. 2,200 dollars PER MONTH, for 12 months, for the chemo pills alone!

Why We’re Asking for Help

Being unable to work while undergoing aggressive treatment, Zarina and her family are facing an overwhelming financial strain. Between medical bills, prescriptions, hospital stays, and basic living expenses, it’s more than one family can bear alone.

We’re hoping to raise money to help cover:

Life-saving chemotherapy medications

Out-of-pocket hospital and specialist costs

Groceries, rent, and utilities while she is unable to work

Transportation and travel for ongoing appointments

Zarina and Michael are not the kind to ever ask for help. They’ve done everything they can to manage this on their own — quietly pushing through the pain, the stress, and the overwhelming medical bills that are stacking up.

But the reality is: this is too big for one family to carry alone. And after much hesitation, they’ve finally agreed to let us create this GoFundMe on their behalf — not because it’s easy, but because it’s necessary.

Zarina is one of the strongest people I know. She’s kind, resilient, and devoted to her family. She has so much to fight for — her husband, her children, her future — and right now she needs our help to keep going.
