My name is Zania Taylor, and I am thrilled to share that I have been selected for an incredible opportunity through the CIEE Study Abroad Program, in partnership with the Gordon Zeto Center, to study in Legon, Ghana, this summer (May 2025). As a sophomore at Spelman College, majoring in Political Science with a minor in History, this two-week program offers a unique chance to immerse myself in Ghana’s rich culture, history, and political landscape.
During my time in Ghana, I will have the opportunity to expand my academic studies while engaging with local scholars, activists, and community leaders. This experience will be invaluable in both my personal and academic growth, especially in my pursuit of a career in law. Understanding different cultures, social systems, and historical contexts is essential—not just for professional success but also for becoming a more empathetic global citizen. I believe that studying abroad is one of the best ways to gain a broader perspective and deepen my understanding of global issues.
As I continue my education at Spelman, I am committed to using my experiences to advocate for those whose voices are often silenced. My academic focus on the African diaspora, combined with my passion for political science, fuels my aspiration to become a civil rights attorney. This study abroad opportunity will help me further understand historical injustices and their lasting impacts, allowing me to better advocate for justice and equality.
I am truly excited about the growth and insights this experience will bring, and I cannot wait to share what I learn along the way.
Thank you so much for your continued support and encouragement. Your support means the world to me as I continue my educational journey toward making a positive impact in the world.
Warm regards,
