Help Support My Custom AFO Braces
My name is Zakeus Banks, and I’m currently working toward regaining stability and independence after a major medical event.
I survived an aortic dissection, followed by a series of multiple strokes that temporarily left me paralyzed. Recovery has been a long, demanding process—physically, mentally, and financially—but I’ve continued pushing forward with therapy and rehabilitation.
One critical next step in my recovery is obtaining custom AFOs (ankle-foot orthoses). These braces are medically necessary to:
• Help me stand and walk more safely
• Provide stability and balance
• Assist with stretching my heel cords
• Support continued progress in physical therapy and daily mobility
Custom AFOs are costly and not fully covered by insurance. The total needed is $1,265, which will go directly toward the braces and required fittings. There is no strict due date, but I would love to have them by March so I can continue making consistent progress in my recovery.
I’m not asking for sympathy—just support. Every contribution or share helps me move closer to greater independence and a better quality of life. I’m committed to doing the work; these braces will help make that possible.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting my recovery in any way you can.
